Really? You call this (BL) Boys love? Are you certain this is not Men’s love? Hngh.

Overview

— No CGs relating to plot.

– 4:3 ratio screen size ratio.
– Protagonist is not interesting, and unsuited for solving mysteries due to flippant attitude.
– Protagonist is hypersexual and is hardly relatable for readers.
– Huge flaws in the characters’ routes.
– 3/4 characters are older than the protagonist. One is even old enough to be the protagonist’s father. This is still BL… right?

-/+ Protagonist is a seme
-/+ Repeating routes

= Average plot/story, weak execution.
= No visible spelling mistake, but I see some inconsistent past/present tense usage (does not affect the story).
= Average music, sound effects.

+ Consistent and clean artwork
+ Strong gameplay system.
+ Interesting staff comments.
+ Professional seiyuu standard.

Final score, 5.5/10, and play Hiroyuki’s route first regardless of your interest in the other characters.
Worth buying or not: Because it’s the only recent BL VNs in the market, so if you want to see more BL VNs, you buy it regardless of my score. *Laughs*.

Installation

Approximately 3gb in size, split into 2 zips for download, unpacked into 4.37 gb. My download speed was approximately 1mbps. I can immediately run the VN without any further installation after unpacking. The DRM is a simple copy and paste of the codes given after purchase.

Story

NTY is split mostly into 4 major chapters where they are of each different case. Stalking, finding a neet brother, a child abuse case and Haru’s true motive in the VN. As to why I consider the story to be generic, well, it’s kind of hard for me to point it out exactly. If you had read danganronpa’s story, there is a sort of flow to it. It introduces you to a case where the protagonist’s life is on the line, and that you need to solve the mystery otherwise it’s game over. For higurashi, everything plays out as a bad ending for each individual novel in the first half. You get interested into how the protagonists solve and escape the death sentences.

For NTY, you don’t really care about the characters enough, especially when there’s a lack of involvement from the protagonist himself. With Haru’s attitude, there’s not really much of a point to see it as a mystery, or see him as a detective which kind of makes the mystery genre an afterthought of sorts. It gets even messier because there’s a lack of, well, chemistry (?) between the characters (except Hiroyuki) in my opinion.

If there’s anything worth praising in the story, it’s how the plot is realistically done. It’s just like how real life plays out, there are things that are usually not in your control and they can easily go wrong very fast. I would have given it a higher rating had there been relevant CGs given to the plot but there wasn’t any at all, so it feels like the story isn’t important to the readers but more of a filler. There are at least 60% worth of HCGs for each character, which makes me think that more importance was placed in H-scenes rather than romance or plot.

Characters

Haru

There is a certain amount of depth in Haru. It’s like finding a restaurant that cooks a relatively nice looking steak, only to find that the sauce and meat combination is completely bland, and yet you realize that the meat is actually quite high grade. Haru is interesting when he displays his true feelings, but when his hyper-sexuality and fake-ness are in play it diminishes his characterization.

Underneath his skin, the most obvious things are him supressing his real feelings and a craving for parental love. Perhaps he’s trying to use his hyper-sexuality as an escape point, but I wouldn’t go too far into analyzing him.

It is also both the writer’s fault and Haru’s characterization that made the overall mysteries even less uninteresting than it is. Again, it is made even worse when there are no CGs that relates to them. This ends up as a character-based VN more than anything else.

Inui Kouichi

No Thank You English Download Torrent Full

Kouichi is a bar owner who’s a pretty normal guy looking to find his son, a bonafide ossan.

I made a mistake. My train of thought is to generally play the worst routes in a VN so I can “get it out of the way”. But as I played through his route, I find that it is worse than expected. In case, you still haven’t realize, I’m a guy. My list of visual novels is actually pretty long, and I thought I can handle the BL novels pretty well, but when I put myself into the role of Haru, I had to sit in front of the computer for a while and think of what to write about Kouichi, but in the end there’s no other way to put it other than, “Dad, I just don’t like you that way, seriously”.

Inui Kouichi and I share at least one thing in common at the start. WTF are you thinking, Haru?

You

I guess more than anything, the age factor sort of blocks me out from thinking it as romance. Haru’s actions did not help either, he literally binds Kouichi up and just gets his way with him making it a one-sided affair (ra3p), then at the end of the VN, Haru even taunts/mocks Kouichi for sleeping with him.

This route is just too crazy for me…

Maki

Maki works in Kouichi’s bar as a chef.

If Kouichi’s age is a problem, Maki is sort of too. Again, if I step into Haru’s shoes, I’m 22, Maki’s 35, that’s a pretty huge age gap. I can sort of ignore that age part, there were 3 other problems.

– Maki is a character who’s like a dead fish (highly apathetic like Haru).
– Haru gets all violent and ragey around him early on (ra3p), which literally killed the route for me.
– Muscles overwhelming?

Maki is the 2nd character that I did after Kouichi. I tend to ask myself, would I somehow in some form, in some way, pursue Maki. If Maki is a female, would “her” personality be appealing to guys? Hmm, hmph. If there’s a trope here, Ice queen would be appropriate. Perhaps, Yuki Nagato might be a good counterpart?

*Looks at Maki’s sprite again…*

….. Nahhhh, that’s a little too much for me.

I really can’t be certain. The amount of muscles has sort of upset my senses, hahaha (starting to get delirious from all the muscles).

Maki’s route does showcases Haru’s true feelings and adds a layer of complexity, and there is a similarity between Haru and Maki, so there is a level of something in the air, but I’m not sure if I can view it as romance.

Kurosawa Ryu

Ryu works as a bartender.

So Kouichi is too old, Maki makes everything feel like a pain, Ryu just doesn’t like Haru that way.

Romance, are you sure it’s in this VN?

Ryu was the third character that I played. The thing about Ryu is that he’s just not interested. Everything between and Haru is a transaction. For a visual novel that’s supposedly a BL, it really isn’t very romantic. For the third time, putting myself into Haru’s shoes, I ask myself if I actually like Ryu as a character.

If,

Haru is a female, Ryu is a male, wow, Ryu feels like a douchebag (Ending 1).
Haru is a male, Ryu is a female, I wouldn’t like her.
Haru is a male, Ryu is a male, meh, Ryu kind of sucks for using Haru.

Well at least it’s kind of consistent. I didn’t like Ryu’s character no matter what gender I imagine him to be.

I think I was overall disappointed with this route because of how Ryu got his information (out of Haru) and ultimately couldn’t care less about Haru (Ending 1).

Akiyama Hiroyuki

Hiroyuki also works as a bartender,

Hiroyuki is the best character in this VN. Well at least, I think his route has the best romance. It’s the only route where Haru confesses that he likes Hiroyuki (amongst all other characters), and Hiroyuki openly cries over Haru (compare Ryu Ending 1). For all its worth, Hiroyuki’s route ends up with everything going wrong with his actions, nobody gets saved in the storyline, everyone in one way or another gets hit with tragedy, and you can even decide to kick the puppy if you so want (ending 2). Out of all the characters, Hiroyuki is the only one where I had dismay over what happens in his bad end.

He also fits the “boys love” criteria in my opinion. It’s kind of bittersweet and he’s the only one who really reciprocates to Haru’s advances. The seiyuu is quite enthusiastic as well probably with the best ear porn for the right audience (I think.). I don’t really think this VN is worth 40 dollars, but at least there’s one route that is actually pretty good.

All endings for all characters end up with Haru regaining his memories and leaving the bar, so it’s going to be either a fandisk or sequel.

Seiyuu (voice actor)

English

Here’s the part that I’m weakest at. I just really don’t know the relevant voice actors, especially in the world of BL. Perhaps the erotic content is the most important part within in the BL genre, instead of how professional they sound in the novel? Well, considering everything, inclusive of the plot and characters, I only, cough, reacted to Hiroyuki’s route.

Well, heck, I can’t even recognize the mainstream seiyuu out there in anime and I don’t really read VNs for the sake of listening to the naughty bits. Sorry people, you’re out of luck if you want to know whether you will nose bleed over them voices.

Erotic content

Eh. I am amused at the part where you save during the H-scenes and the characters grumble at that. Quite a number of the scenes have clinical anatomy descriptions, and I don’t think it really worked too well… There’s also a staff’s comment on the H-scenes for overdoing “it”, but gets refuted by the director that it’s actually quite tame (Which is true, I think this is actually pretty tame stuff.).

Graphics

Approximately 20-22 CGs per character + 7 other CGs with a ridiculous ton of variations (3290 CGs). As I have said before, there are no CGs relating to the cases, and to any of the action scenes. The artwork is considerably high quality, with high emphasis placed with hair variations in the erotic content…? The cel shading/lighting is done pretty well, so I don’t have any complaints there.

If there’s something that I don’t like, it’s the 4:3 screen ratio. As we all know it, the industry is shifting to a HD settings of 16:9 (1280*720 or 1920 * 1080)

Music

20 songs, mostly piano based. Nothing too memorable but not insufferable.

Misc

Gameplay system features voice collection and staff comments. A bit of additional dialogue is unlocked as you get the character’s POV.

Overall thoughts.

No Thank You!!! is amazingly popular in amazon jp. Let me just write it straight out.

I don’t really understand why it’s so popular. Perhaps someone else can point out why it’s popular.

The plot is just full of cliches and quite boring. I can’t really rate it as a mystery, characters are much older than the protagonist and the dialogue is full of “Dad” based talk (I tried my best, but for goodness sake I am in the corner drawing circles after reading so many dad-lines.).

I mean, really? Really?! I can understand if it is just BL, but you’re kind of crossing that BL (boy =/= dad) line with Inui Kouichi being twice the age of Haru (the protagonist) and even had the hint of them being blood related (which soon gets squashed, otherwise I’ll be drawing even more circles). That goes into the weird territory, and despite me playing a handful of BL games, this still got me in an uncomfortable moment.

It’s not… shocked into silence, or surprised to a state where I am lost for words, but I have to raise up my hands in a surrendering fashion. Kouichi’s route is just too much for me.

Another thing that gets me is the amount of muscles as well. This feels like the “bara” genre rather than the BL genre, where the characters have a lot of muscles/body hair, and it also contains sort of a less than ideal storyline. While I can appreciate this genre (somewhat), the plot and writing are unable to satisfy me. It really annoyed me to see that there are no CGs related to the plot and the female characters in the VN are underwhelming, nearly to the point where I think the VN is better off not having them.

As the protagonist, Haru is weak in charisma outside the VN. He’s immature, perverted and apathetic to a certain degree, and apathy is a killer if not done right. Since we get the full story and background after reading everything, it feels like majority of what Haru does in the overall plot is 99% fake (the bad endings for the characters sort of presents his true isolated self).

The characters have their own set of problems and they sort of get solved at the end of the VN, but they are so stereotypical that there is really nothing great about it.

Despite the weakness of the plot and characters, the VN is backed up by a pretty strong seiyuu cast, clean artwork and a very detailed gameplay system. An average read, don’t expect anything out of it.
